CHARACTER
Name: Waver Archibald El-Melloi
Canon: Sensha Otoko: A True Tank Story (An official Fate/Zero AU)
Age: Late teens
Timeline: After texting Iskander about her present.

Personality: Anyone familiar with Waver Velvet would find themselves having quite the double-take when meeting Waver Archibald El-Melloi. The whole being a girl thing aside, the difference between them is quite obvious right from the start; she actually smiles. Having grown up in a more-or-less loving family, Waver doesn't suffer from the unpleasant circumstances that form much of her canon counterpart's bitter personality. She is actually quite happy most of the time, with a healthful level of self-confidence and no trouble making friends. She is the darling of her family, and most people who meet her can't help but like her because of her outgoing, sweet, and cutesy disposition. She carries herself with the dignity and poise one expects from a girl of noble birth, being both extremely intelligent and talented. But she is also very down-to-earth, easygoing, and cheerful.

In fact, Waver is so generally pleasant that people could (and often do) assume she's somewhat oblivious. Her family isn't perfect; her parents have marital problems and her father has an oddly intense dislike for her brother. Her neighbourhood is filled with stalkers and weirdos, some of which she calls her friends. But Waver isn't as ignorant of what goes on around her as she seems; she merely internalizes her worries most of the time, keeping her feelings about those problems to herself. If Waver ignores the flaws of those she loves, then there wouldn't be any reason to fight. That's how she feels about such things. She applies this same attitude to her life in general; rather than fret over the future or what's expected of her as an Archibald, Waver chooses to be very carefree.

However, that's not to say Waver is a saint, all sunshine and rainbows. Being a Type A tsundere is a key element of Waver's personality across all of time and space. Her temper is just as short, if not shorter, as her canon counterpart's, and she's still prone to sarcasm or disdain when she doesn't like how a situation is going. This is shown both in how quickly she throws a tantrum while talking to her brother, and the way she ditches her parents when they have one of their... moments. Indeed, the story begins with her freaking out at a stalker who had mistaken her for another woman, resulting in the (maybe) hero punching the man in the face.

What's more, though Waver is far from arrogant or stuck-up, she is quite used to being adored and getting her way. She is the apple of her father's eye, a daddy's girl tried and true. She has many friends in Fuyuki and is popular with the boys, though her brother tends to chase the latter off. Waver merely assumes he is overprotective; his possibly-inappropriate affection for her is the one thing she seems truly oblivious to. (Indeed, only Kayneth seems to realize there's something weird about that boy! Waver just doesn't take him seriously.) Having her family's pride is very important to her; she strives to always be the daughter/sister she feels they deserve. Because of that pressure, Waver is something of a perfectionist, though she doesn't hold anyone else to standards nearly as high as those she holds for herself.

She can also be quite shy, getting flustered easily when Iskander saves her, and again when he presents her with a gift. Despite that shyness, Waver is eager to understand his reasoning behind such an odd present, researching both Saber and her motorcycle so that she can speak to Iskandar about it with confidence. That need to show that she cares and be acknowledged in turn is just part of who Waver is.

In summary, Waver is a normal shoujo heroine living out a quirky life, who just so happens to also be the daughter of a great line of mages. Magic, heroic spirits, and weirdness are all part of her daily life, and her reaction to it all shows her be as different from her canon counterpart as she is similar to him.

Background: Sensha Otoko is an official AU of Fate/Zero that started out as one of their annual April Fools jokes and was expanded on later. Since the wiki article for Otoko itself is pretty sparse, I'll include a written history as well.

The world of Sensha Otoko is what would happen if a Fate/ sitcom were reality! It is a crazy place where magic is an every-day thing rather than a closely-guarded secret, and Heroic Spirits live mundane lives side by side with mages and normal people. Our heroine is Waver Archibald El-Melloi, a girl living in Fuyuki City, Japan, with her two parents and Heroic Spirit brother. Her neighbourhood has a lot of stalkers and weird people, but this doesn't seem to bother the El-Mellois very much.

Born in England, Waver's childhood was a happy one despite the tensions in her parents' marriage. One source of those tensions was that both parents clearly had a favourite child; Kayneth spoiled his adorable daughter while Sola-ui gave most of her love to their son. The siblings themselves had always been very close, so much that they rarely argued about anything; Diarmuid would do anything for his little sister, and Waver repaid that devotion with adoration and love. Only Kayneth seemed to notice that his son's feelings were kind of weird, but the rest of the family just always assumed he hated the boy for one reason or another.

Eventually, Lord El-Melloi moved is family to Fuyuki in Japan, where he teaches magecraft. Despite how eccentric the city was, Waver took to it well, as both she and her brother were popular and came to have many friends and admirers-- though, for some reason, all of Waver's quickly changed their minds about her after confessing their feelings. She would never guess in a million years that it's because of her own brother or father intimidating them for not being good enough. And thus, sadly, Waver never had a boy who was interested in her for long!

But that all changed the day she was stalked by a deformed and disabled hobo. Out of nowhere, the Heroic Spirit Iskander bravely saved her and fell for her, and thus their love (maybe) story unfolded! The shy Iskander had never had a girlfriend, and so he asked his Heroic Spirit friends what he should get her as a gift. Considering his circle of friends included two serial killers, the world's ultimate NEET, a model-turned-bootleg figure maker, and a surprisingly nice guy in a helmet, this probably wasn't the best decision he could have made. Nonetheless, Waver accepted his present kindly and defended it against her brother's cruel disapproval, though in truth she thought it was a weird gift too. After some research, Waver became truly enthusiastic about Iskander's hobbies and didn't shun him. And so the tale ends happily!

...Probably.

Abilities: Waver is a magus; in Nasuverse, this is a human capable of using a sort of spiritual nervous system called magic circuits to perform miracles that could be regarded as magic, or magecraft. In the world of Sensha Otoko, magic appears to be regarded in a far more light-hearted way than in canon proper. Waver is a tenth generation magus, though considering she's likely never put her magic to use the same way a traditional Type-Moon magus would, this doesn't mean all that much in practice. As with her father, her elemental affinities are for air and water, meaning she has better mastery over magic concerning these elements than she does the others. And as with Waver in canon proper, her particular strengths lie in more science-oriented fields, such as alchemy.

She has a cute rat familiar named Watson but has thus far been unsuccessful in bribing it to eat her homework.

First Person: [The girl on the feed looks unsure of herself for a moment, but she breathes deeply and then seems to have calmed herself almost instantly. In fact, she's even smiling, though there's maybe something just a bit timid about it.]

Um, hullo! This is a bit embarrassing to admit, but I think I may be quite lost. It's really very important that I return to Fuyuki before my father and brother realise I've gone missing and fret, so... Ah, if someone could please explain to me how I can return home from here... I would truly appreciate it.

[She rubs the bridge of her nose, looking sheepish for a moment, and then a bit annoyed.]

Or if you could just direct me to whoever's responsible for this, that would work just as well. I'd really like to have a little chat with them about it.

[By which she means she wants to box someone's ears.]

Third Person: Waver liked to think she didn't show as much fear as she felt, even in times like this. She'd fallen asleep on the train before, but never when she travelled without Diarmuid or Enkidu. And certainly not to the point that she'd end up in another city entirely. Such things just didn't happen to Waver.

Which was why she found it especially jarring to wake up alone-- not simply without someone she knew and trusted, even, but well and truly alone. Even the train just wasn't the same, looking more like something old and Western than anything she'd seen in Japan. How could someone have moved her without waking her? It was upsetting to think about.

So she chose not to. At least, not for the moment. Running her hands over her arms to try and comfort herself, Waver took a deep breath and stepped off the train. Her face was smiling, though it didn't touch her eyes with the way her mind had become preoccupied. If the method disturbed her too much right now, she should try thinking of the motive, right? Perhaps she was being held for ransom. Her family had money, everyone knew that. Or maybe she'd been kidnapped by one of those stalkers in town; a girl like her probably looked like an easy target.

Well, she'd show them how wrong that assessment was if she could just get her hands on them! Who did they think they were, abducting an El-Melloi and expecting it to go smoothly?! How dare they underestimate her! They probably expected her to cry and show vulnerability, but there was no way she could do that...!

Thinking such thoughts, Waver wiped at her eyes before any tears could truly fall, nodding resolutely to herself as she stared down the empty train station. Her big brother would come save her, she had no doubt about that. So she had to be strong while she waited, so that daddy would know he didn't need to worry about his little girl in situations like this. Waver was an Archibald El-Melloi. She could take care of herself! Her resolve now unshakeable, the magus purposely strode forth, filled with dignity and determination.

...Until she tripped and fell to the ground face-first with an embarrassing yelp, that is. The Archibald family took a slight blow to their pride this day...
